The Philadelphian in Me

For all those people who wanna know why I say words the way I do, I present you with the Philadelphian Phonetic Guide of the Vowel A.

You use tense -a:

— Before -m and -n: e.g., ham, man, fan, pecan (high-class Philadelphians
sometimes say pe-cahn, but of course without changing any of the other
words).

— Before -f, -th, -s: laugh, staff, bath, glass.

— In three words ending in -d: mad, bad, glad (but lahd, pahd, brahd, gahd
about).

Exceptions:

— -ng gets lax -a: fan is tense, fang is fahng.

— Irregular verbs get lax a: can (a can of peas) is tense; can (I cahn do
it) is lax. So are ran, swam, began, am. And the sub-literate dialect word
wan, as in “We wahn the war.”

— Exception to the exception: can the verb is lax, can’t is tense.

— The article “an” is lax.

— If a vowel comes after -m or -n in the word, the “a” turns lax: ham is
tense, hammer is lax. Fan tense, fanny lax.

I miss you, Philly.

If you have opinions on it, lemme know. I am thinking about buying a digital SLR after the new year.

Sentimental

Isn’t this a sexy picture of Katie? HAHA! I love it. And yes, that is a whole bucket of ice cream in her hand, which she later dropped down the stairs and screamed, “Oh, no!”

While listening to a BF’s song, I thought about high school and how promises between friends were made. We promised so many things to each other; some of them were ridiculous. A few of the “funniest” promises were probably no drinking, no drugs, no sex before marriage, making sure we keep in touch so we can live in an apt together with our iMacs, etc. Though the one that sticks out most in my mind is to stay friends forever. How many times has someone made that promise and then it fell through? It just sucks that people have high hopes for friendships, only to be let down. I’ve had very few friends in my life stay for longer than 3 years. My goal is to rekindle (if that’s the right word) some of these friendships and to start new ones. It’s amazing how many people you meet when you actually talk to them. I know that sounds weird. What I really mean is…it’s interesting to see that people you never really talked to have a lot more in common with you than you might think. I’ve “met” about 4-5 people in the past few weeks, even though I’ve technically known them for years. Crazy!

I’m still excited about Ben Folds.

I went home last weekend for my dad’s 49th birthday. It was really nice to see my family, friends, Peter, and dogs once again. We all went to a marching band competition, and Great Bridge won 1st place AAAA in EVERYTHING. Go, alma mater 🙂

Jerry got his senior pictures in. They look really good. I’m excited to see what they look like when we get the wallets and stuff.

Oh, yea. I’ve discovered a love for Cheez-its. It’s probably not healthy–even if they are reduced fat.

I just want to say that weekends with Ally are the best… and somehow, I ended up nairing Chance’s back with her. I’m not really sure how that experience fits into having a great weekend, but I guess it would be in there somewhere.

I made some earrings. Give me feedback. Should I sell them?

Be sure to check out the festivities below… I posted some pics earlier.
