Dancing Shoes Applique

I downloaded this really cute applique pattern from Planet Applique a few weeks ago, and I finally had some time to try it out. It’s a cute Mary Jane shoe pattern, and it took me a while to figure out which colors I wanted to use with it.

I had a leftover red Carter’s onesie from Valentine’s Day that I didn’t get to use, so I was trying to think of something I could do with it. I think this is a pretty cute idea! This onesie looks so cute with a pair of little black jeggings.

Home Improvement Project – Shelves

We have a nice 3rd floor loft in our bedroom that we have been trying to figure out since we bought this house. It is a pretty sizable space, and you have to walk up stairs in our bedroom to get to it. There are these 2 cute windows, and each window has a little alcove which is about 30″ wide and 6 feet deep. So the question (for years) has been, “What do we do with these little window spaces?”

We have tried putting sheer curtains in front of them, so we could hide junk behind them, but it just wasn’t working. For Valentine’s Day, Peter decided he would build me Valentine’s shelves. Yep. Ok, they’re really just shelves, but they were built with love on Valentine’s Day.

I also went to Joann’s Fabric and bought some cute, trendy fabric to create little curtains for the shelves–that way we can store a bunch of stuff underneath and it still looks nice. And our 1-year old won’t be tempted by things if they are covered up.

They look really nice, and I am very happy with the usable space. Now the next project is to make the same little curtains for the changing table, so I can hide the diapers, wipes, and other stuff under there.

Free Toddler Toy!

I have a lot of these plastic take-out containers because I can’t bring myself to throw them away. They aren’t recyclable in our area, and I just feel bad throwing out something that resembles a Tupperware container.

I told my husband I would try to find a use for them. He thinks I (sometimes) hoard stuff like a squirrel. I’m not THAT bad, but I understand what he means. It’s the same reason I had 30 little empty K-cup containers a few years ago. I just feel like I should try to reduce-reuse-recycle when possible.

Anyhow…Emma really enjoys plopping toys into little spaces lately, so I decided to make her a toy container. She can put think blocks and things into the hole, and maybe when she gets older, I will do the same thing with colored buttons or markers (with a smaller, circular hole).

Puppy Outfit

I made an outfit for Emma. It was a little hard because I am learning about tension and how it can really screw up sewing if you don’t have it set correctly.

I had to make a few tweaks to this outfit, but it turned out OK enough in the end. Don’t mind the little pieces of thread all over the place.

Ipsy January 2014 Bag

20140120_132558

This month was a pretty cute bag for ipsy (–it is actually written with a lowercase “i”). 🙂 The outside of the bag is a rough, textured, plastic-y fabric that displays little bottles of perfume, shampoo, conditioner,  lotions, etc.

The contents of the bag were of an average excitement level for me. There were 5 products; one of which was full-sized, and the others were samples. Good-sized samples!

  • The sample of HealthSexyHair is a great detangler, and it smells nice, too.
  • I am really impressed with the MICA lip balm in Natural. It is the perfect shade for most women, I think. It gives you a nice, even color but is natural-looking enough that nobody knows you are wearing lip color. The formula is nice and smooth, but I still add a little chapstick on top for moisture.
  • I haven’t tried the proactiv+ packets yet, but I am excited to give them a whirl. I used proactiv before my wedding–just as proactive zit solution during a great time of stress–and was super happy with it. Proactiv did a great job at not drying out my skin and kept my skin clear the whole month leading up to my wedding. Just a note…I only used proactiv once a day instead of the recommended two times. I thought it did perfectly fine with only once a day. Why dry out my skin if it’s not necessary?
  • The Elizabeth Mott smooth pencil is a creamy eyeshadow pencil that acts as an eyeliner if you ask me. It is a beautiful color, called Pearl, and it shimmers. I think it looks great paired with black mascara and a line of it on the top eyelid.
  • I have not tried the purifying exfoliant by Epice, but I am pretty sure I will like it. I am a big fan of using exfoliants when I shower. I feel like they scrub out the dirty oils on my face. I don’t have any oily skin issues, but you know how it is after a long day at work. Sometimes you just feel greasy.

Overall, this month’s bag was a 3/5 for me. Not terrible, not super impressed, not bad though.

Getting Ready for Christmas

I used to (like before last year) LOVE the holidays. Now I am slightly terrified of Christmas. Last year, I was 9 months pregnant, went into labor on Christmas Day at 12:30am, and had a baby at 4:06 pm on Christmas Day. So this year…I am a little unsure of what is going to happen. What is Christmas like with a baby? Will I enjoy it the way I usually do? Will it be better? What is it going to be like having people at our house this year? Will everyone behave themselves? Will I feel so stressed on Christmas or will I enjoy it?

I just am such a big Christmas fan normally, and now I feel like this paranoid wreck about it. For 28 years, I had an expectation of how Christmas Day was going to go…and it usually followed the family traditions, so nothing was out of the ordinary.

Now this is going to be the 2nd Christmas in a row that I have no idea what the heck is going to happen. Slightly nervous.

In an effort to get excited about the holidays again, I decided I am going to dress Emma in holiday clothes as much as possible. Because…why not?

Happlique Thanksgiving!

I finally made a shirt that I am not ashamed of. It’s the cutest little turkey ever from Planet Applique.

I got the onesie from a consignment shop for $1.50, so I feel pretty excited about this new “outfit” for Emma.
